The Trip

  Pretty groovy soundtrack! Roger Corman experimented with LSD and wanted to make a movie about it. So he asked Jack Nicholson, who he knew had been partaking in lots of Acid, to write a script about someone's 1st trip on LSD in LA. This movie and its actors (Peter Fonda/Dennis Hooper) all led to the casting of Easy Rider. Nicholson had a couple scripts written before this as well.

Keeling Beckford

  Super OG producer and Rock Steady/ Rootsy reggae artist @keelingbeckford stopped by the record store yesterday, and shared some amazing stories. He put out his 1st 45rpm in 1968 at 13 yrs old in Kingston, Jamaica and made a ton of singles in the 70s. His backing band were members of the Wailers, Roots Radics and The Revolutionaries. He also produced and put out artist on his 12 Star record label throughout (King Tubby, Bunny Lee, The Aggrovators, Nicodemus) After moving to the Bronx in the mid-70s, he started producing and making tracks that would be labeled hiphop before it was. This man deserves to be in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame. The tracks he made and put out from 75-80 are straight-up crate diggers treasure, I put him up there as one of the Pioneers of Electro music as well, he also wrote and played every thing on the songs he produced. Honored to meet him and much respect to Keeling Beckford!

On this day today

  The homie @_savage_damage_ just posted this On-This-Day flyer from June 29, 1991, 34 years ago. I drove the band Struggle all the way up to the bay area to play some shows. When my mom got divorced, she moved to Vegas and left me her station wagon, that I drove San Diego bands on tour. This mini-tour started the concept of Rice as a band when I left my Grandma's Rice cooker at the house we stayed in, and drove a couple hours back to retrieve it.
