Unwound last night

Excellent show by @therealunwound last night, their crowd was mostly tall as hell, so I barely filmed it or took pictures. Jared filled in for Vern's bass, excellent and probably the best choice. I do miss the visual of Vern and his cigarette dangling with long ash during every song. In 1991, Rice was playing a show at this practice spot by the freeway in San Diego and when we got to the parking slot, there was a big 70s monster of a Suburban truck parked in it with the 1st incarnation of Unwound, asking if they can jump the bill and play. The following year, Rice/Bumblescrump went on tour and when we got to Olympia, WA, we were welcomed by Justin Trosper and Rachel from the Need at the Red House, who told us after to walk around town and look for a guy with a big afro -- Jared, whose band KARP we were playing with at the Uncola. A couple years after, San Diego started a love affair with Unwound, often with 10 or more kids traveling to see the band in its heyday. Unwound were amazing good people, glad their music found its way to my teen angst ears at the right time. Rest in Peace, Vern.
