Super OG producer and Rock Steady/ Rootsy reggae artist @keelingbeckford stopped by the record store yesterday, and shared some amazing stories. He put out his 1st 45rpm in 1968 at 13 yrs old in Kingston, Jamaica and made a ton of singles in the 70s. His backing band were members of the Wailers, Roots Radics and The Revolutionaries. He also produced and put out artist on his 12 Star record label throughout (King Tubby, Bunny Lee, The Aggrovators, Nicodemus) After moving to the Bronx in the mid-70s, he started producing and making tracks that would be labeled hiphop before it was. This man deserves to be in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame. The tracks he made and put out from 75-80 are straight-up crate diggers treasure, I put him up there as one of the Pioneers of Electro music as well, he also wrote and played every thing on the songs he produced. Honored to meet him and much respect to Keeling Beckford!
